A business listing on Google displays your business information along with the Google search results. Here’s an example of how this listing could look like:

In order to grow the visibility of the business, ensure that its information is displayed there. On top of that, you can claim the listing so to have full control over the displayed information. To do just that, you can use GoogleMy Business,  a free tool for businesses to manage their online presence across Google, including Search and Maps. To boost traffic to your website, it’s vital to ensure that your business has a profile in Google My Business with your official domain listed.

Should you not have a profile yet, we recommend you to set it up and read through the additional information from Google here. If you already have a Google My Business account you can log in at google.com/business and start editing your business listing immediately.

As soon as you are logged in to your Google Account, you will be able to enter the name of your business, its physical address, select a business category, add contact details and a website address.

Lastly, you will have to verify your business. Different verification options will be offered depending on the type of business you have selected. Based on Google’s guidelines, you are usually asked to verify your business using a verification code sent via a postcard, therefore, ensure the address you’ve entered with your business details is accurate and complies with Google guidelines; it can take 1 to 2 weeks for the post card to be delivered, while waiting, do not edit your business name, address or category nor request a new code, as doing so, may delay the verification process.

Some selected businesses can also be verified by phone, email or Search Console. If you see the “phone” verification option, it’s recommended you use it, since it’s the fastest way to verify. Google will call you at the business number listed to confirm the details are correct. However, if you’ve already verified your business’s website with Google Search Console, then Google maybe instantly verify your business; ensure you’re logged in to GoogleMy Business with the same account you used to verify your site on GoogleSearch Console. Lastly, if you’re managing 10 or more locations for the same business, you may be able to verify them in bulk.

After completing all steps online and receiving your postcard – or verified via phone/Google Search Console – you will be able to review your business information for a final check. As soon as you finalize reviewing the information and click on “Done editing”, you have reached the end of the claiming process. Google provides a detailed step-by-step guide on how to claim your business listing which can be found here.
